About

My name is Kim, and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and my art. I grew up in and around New York City. My parents were graphic artists, so I was surrounded by art and culture and learned to draw at an early age. By the time I was eight, my work had already been accepted for publication by Holt, Rinehart and Winston and the Children’s Museum of the Arts.

When I was not drawing, I was on the ice and quickly fell in love with figure skating. I trained for 10 years and competed nationally, winning several championships. I aimed for the 1980 Winter Olympics, but an injury redirected my path, and I became professional. I enjoyed a successful career starring in ice shows across the United States and Canada, including as a featured act on the Las Vegas Strip.

After the shows, I transitioned between teaching skating and working behind the scenes with Cirque Du Soleil helping make the magical designs of the shoes, makeup, and headpieces. Working in that world reignited my love for painting, so I continued my studies in fine art with protégées of Norman Rockwell and Steven Dohanos. I also developed many fun illustrations featuring mice and cats as the main characters.

Since then, my unique work has been showcased in the skating community and in several juried art competitions, winning multiple awards. I was a featured artist at the New York Athletic Club, sponsored by The Skating Club Of New York for the 150th anniversary of Skating in New York City. A year later I had a solo exhibition, The Skaters Waltz, featuring my skating-themed paintings.

I soon ventured into publishing, writing, and illustrating my book Ela the Fancy Skater under my company, Antiquemoon Press. The story features Ela, a lovely yellow elephant and her friend Mouse, who love skating. The book is available for purchase here, as well as selections of my fine art.

Illustration
Drawing has been my refuge since I was a child. Inspired by the enchanting worlds of Louis Wain, Alfred Mainzer, Tasha Tudor, and Beatrix Potter, my illustrations often come alive with whimsical animals like mice and cats. These creatures are my escape and passion, always there to soothe my spirit, even when getting in trouble at school for sketching instead of doing my homework. While fine art has its allure and allows exploration of depth, detail, and emotion, my true love will always be for the fanciful illustrations I create from life, that capture my heart.

Painting
I have a deep passion for painting in all its forms and constantly experiment with both traditional and digital mediums. Each approach complements the other, depending on the subject matter. Traditional methods allow me to infuse a dream-like quality into my work, while digital techniques lend themselves to more contemporary pieces. Regardless of the medium, everything I create is a heartfelt expression of my soul.

Absolutely charming!

Absolutely charming! My daughter loves this book. She read it as soon as it arrived in the mail and brought it to bed to read again that night. The story is sweet and the illustrations are gorgeous, reminiscent of children’s books that I grew up with. A good, wholesome read for your young one.

Beautiful illustrations that capture your imagination!

What fun to see an elephant learn to skate and perform! If an elephant can do it anyone can as the mouse also demonstrates! Also the friendship of the two is lovely! A really cute and fun story for children of all ages!
