Peace and tranquility wash over me as September gracefully waltzes in. Even though the heat is still relentless here in the desert southwest, childhood memories of New England keep me inspired. I can see images dancing in my mind of state fairs, church suppers, cooler temperatures, and the occasional ballet or Broadway show when I’d take a day trip into New York City. And of course, my days of training and figure skating.

I was blessed to travel all over the globe, learning the life lessons that come from discipline, long hours, and the commitment it takes to become an elite skater. I also carry the lessons my parents taught me while growing up in an artist family. It was unusual and different, and for a long time I thought I had missed out on the everyday childhood experiences other kids had. But as I grew older and wiser, I realized what a blessing it truly was. It gave me common sense, inner strength, perseverance, and a way of seeing the world that has stayed with me.

All of those memories — the skating, the art, the travels, the lessons — continue to inspire my creativity to write, paint, and draw. They’re part of the foundation that keeps me imagining new stories and creating new work.

That’s why I’m especially excited to share that I will be launching my second book in the series of three. It features Ela and her favorite companion, Mouse, in their next fun and spooky Halloween adventure, Autumn Days and Spooky Nights.

Stay tuned and keep a lookout on my webpage and social media — Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok — for upcoming announcements.

Blessings to you all,

Kim
